You're Fine, 2019
You’re Fine, is a deeply personal textile piece. It also simultaneously explores larger issues such as feminism and mental health. I considered the connotations that a tissue box brings, and decided to play up the idea of using a tissue to wipe away your tears. I conceived of the idea to stamp on individual tissues. The tissues each have a different phrase that was spoken to me, or a woman close to me that effected us negatively. I embroidered, knit, and crocheted materials that are perceived by society to be hyper feminine on the outside of the box. The 270 hand stamped tissues were accordion folded and put back in the original box. I encouraged members of the public who attended the show, to pull a tissue from the box and bring it home as a take away. You’re Fine, emerged an interactive, experimental, soft sculpture.
